Not only am I so honored to be learning the ropes of seminar production from the one and only Bahaia, I also so thrilled to announce that our guest stars for this event will be Maria Hamer and Olivia Kissel of the Zafira Dance Company (www.zafiradance.com)! "Another Year and a Day" on 10/09/09 with ABA

Hello, dancers and friends!
The Austin Bellydance Association is proud to present "Another Year and A Day." This show features ABA members who committed over a year ago to work on a single dance for the entire prep time, and the results should be astounding, if we can judge by the results we got at our earlier event with the same theme, held in September 2007. This time around, performers are Sahhira, Baharat, Shelagh, Jamie Lynn, Damali Troupe, Eva Tennessee, Fairytale Theatre, Hope, Desert Passion Middle Eastern Dance Company, and Stacey Lizette and the Tekatek Ensemble.
The event will be at the Dougherty Arts Center, 1110 Barton Springs Rd, this Friday, October 9th, show starting at 8pm. Doors will open at 7:30, but we have an unusual request. Due to a scheduling problem, there is another event being held in the gallery until 8pm, so they have asked that we not enter the theatre until 7:30 and later, so please do not arrive too early. Don't worry, we won't start the show without you. We anticipate having a couple of vendors that can set up in the back of the theatre, and we will have the refreshment table set up in the lobby by the time we reach intermission. But here's the best part:
Admission is free for any ABA member, free! And only $10.00 for guests and $5.00 for kids 12 and under. But we also offer a special deal for those who are not members yet. If you pay membership dues to our door person, you start enjoying the benefits of being a member immediately, which means you get into this show for free! We have several shows a year where members get in free or discounted, so you could pay yourself back the $20.00 yearly fee just by going and seeing more shows. Why, yes! Yes you are!!!

I am one of the members of 4 Wench Productions and we produce an event called “Tribal Alchemy”. Now I know many of you think because of the word “tribal”, this event has nothing to offer to YOU. This would be incorrect.

What is Alchemy? By definition, alchemy is “ A medieval chemical philosophy having as its asserted aims the transmutation of base metals into gold, the discovery of the panacea, and the preparation of the elixir of longevity. “ How this translates to US is the mixture of different elements of dance and music to create something entirely new.

We offer affordable workshops, 36.00 each (which are approximately one week’s worth of fast food for most) and these workshops are instructed by some of the most sought after teachers around.

For the musicians, we have with us this year Mr. Dave Hall, who has toured with Solace Live and himself has been a drumming instructor for over 15 years. He has a vast knowledge base and much to offer.

For dancers who are not primarily of the “tribal” persuasion, one of our most requested an instructor (returning for a THIRD year) is Mira Betz. Her knowledge base is SO vast; it would fill this page to list every workshop topic she works with. She has taught workshops on Moroccan folkloric dance with us and this year is offering TWO very different workshops (one on improvisation skills and the other is all about the Taxeem!)

We have SOOZ, who is Fat Chance certified coming to share the ATS goodness. We have Theatrical bellydance, we have Belladonna bringing her unbelievable SWORD skills to teach. The list goes on and on!

The fact is, most bellydancers (no matter what style they fall into) use the same dance vocabulary. Our event offers the chance to learn some new ways to USE those moves, perhaps give you a FRESH view of your dance, and maybe turn you on to something you might not have previously been willing to try.

For 36.00 and a few short hours of your time, you can get a glimpse of something new and maybe start to figure out how some dancers “do that stuff”.

Most importantly, this event is NON PROFIT and benefits Safe Haven of Tarrant County. This center is a shelter and provides assistance for women and children who are affected by domestic violence. I just wanted to let everyone know that I will be starting a new session of classes at my home studio: Lucky Cat Studio on October 7th. I have decided that I'm going to limit my classes to a maximum of seven people. INSTRUCTORS
Silvia Salamanca is a life-long dancer from Mallorca, Spain. She started her career as a belly dancer in 2001, when realizing the enormous benefits that this art-form brings to women in both body and spirit (something that she felt truly missing in other dance practices). From her first teachers, Tasnim Melendres and the acclaimed Nur Banu, two natural born-Egyptians, she realized how with the practice of belly dance that women can get closer to their self identity and discover oneself in a new level, increasing self-esteem, releasing stress and getting deeply in touch with the feminine essence in their soul.

With her work in the field of Zambra Mora (Spanish gypsy-oriental dance fusion) Silvia has gained international recognition and is currently invited to teach workshops and perform in major festivals in Europe and across the USA, and will be part next November of the international Jury of the Contest for the Belly Dancer of the World hosted in Germany.

Silvia is also the co-director of Shunyata Belly Dance, the tribal-style company that captivates audiences at the Texas Renaissance Festival and has recently launched its first instructional DVD.

Passionate about teaching and performing, Angela Nations is a professional belly dancer with over 19 years of formal dance training. She has over 9 years Middle Eastern dance experience in the Cabaret, ITS (Improvisational Tribal Style) and Tribal Fusion styles. She is currently an instructor, choreographer, and performer in Austin, TX and performs at workshops, faires, and events throughout Texas. Her expressive and fluid style, layered upon precise, controlled movements is a blend of various dance techniques combined with a dynamic presence that captivates and entertains.

Lauren Checchio attended the Ali Akbar College of Music in California, and has studied with some of the best percussionists in the world, including Swapan Chaudhuri, Zakir Hussain, Anindo Chatterjee, Glen Velez, and Ty Burhoe. Lauren traveled to the Middle East to study the art of the doumbek, and to Hawaii, to study tabla under Daniel Paul, one of the world’s few tabla tarang players.

Lauren is the director of percussion of the UT Middle Eastern Ensemble. She has played and recorded with 1001 Nights Orchestra, Oliver Rajamani, The Gypsies, Teye & Viva Flamenco, Govinda, Anita Jung, Ojala, among others, in Austin, TX. Lauren is also in demand as a teacher of percussion, giving both private lessons and group workshops.

9:30 am – 12:30 pm: Tribal Belly Dance Meets Flamenco! with Silvia Salamanca
A gypsy Spanish twist to tribal movements and combinations. Combine the precision and sharpness of tribal with the fire of flamenco expression and you get a series of exciting steps, combinations and short routine to take home and leave everybody speechless! Emphasis will be put on posture, arms and spins. Bring a skirt and your best ole!

1:30 – 4:30 pm: Flamenco Style Skirt Dance with Angela Nations
Angela will use the Flamenco fusion belly dance movements and style taught by Silvia during the
morning workshop to teach an exciting skirt dance. Bring a full gypsy-style skirt.

Join us for a celebration of belly dance in all its forms (including cabaret and tribal) in this evening show from to be held in the grand ballroom at the Blue Bubble Ballroom. The first part of the evening (from 7:30 to 9:30) will include performances by belly dance solists and groups. Special guests will include the ladies of Shunyata Belly Dance (Silvia and Angela), and drummer Lauren Checchio.

Join Lauren in an exploration of drum rhythms, starting with basic drum rhythms and then expanding and building on basic rhythms. Both the beginner and experienced drummer will learn something from Lauren.

In this workshop we will learn the art of the beautiful hands and arms from flamenco and how to combine it with your oriental dance to add spark to it. Plus, we will get you spinning like a passionate gitana too! Can we ask for more? Yes! A modern time routine based on this ancient art! Ole!

Vagabond Cirque- Call for Drummers and Other Musicians

Woo hoo! We're doing it again this year! Vagabond Cirque will be on September 19, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to midnight (or thereafter) at Avant Garden. Last year over 200 people attended this event to support HAWC.

This year, we will be raising money for Texas Children's Hospital to honor Caitlyn Bibeau, daughter of Bonnie and Brian Bibeau. Caitlyn passed away after only eleven hours after her birth due to a tumor almost 12-inches in size.

So we need to make this year even bigger and better than last year. And that means we need more MUSIC!
If you are a drummer or Middle Eastern/ East Indian/Jazz/ Vaudeville/ something else really awesome musician, please contact me either here on Tribe or at naribellydance@yahoo.com

We already have five musical acts, but with four areas offering some form of entertainment throughout the night, we need a few more. We would like musicians who are interested in performing at least two sets and can perform with dancers and/or alone.
We especially need drummers to play throughout the night and lead a drum jam at the end of the event.

You will receive a goodie bag, free food, acccess to a green room, and LOTS of exposure. The event is certain to be larger than it was last year and it is TONS of fun!

I hope to share the big top with some of you at this year's Vagabond Cirque!

Low Lives examines works that explore the potential of performance practice presented live through online broadcasting networks. These networks, though seldom utilized for performance art, provide a new alternative and efficient medium for presenting and viewing performances.

Curated by Brooklyn-based artist and curator, Jorge Rojas, Low Lives embraces works with a lo-fi aesthetic such as low pixel image and sound quality, contributing to a raw, DIY and sometimes voyeuristic quality in the transmission and reception of the work. The artists and artist collectives participating in this exhibition will transmit their performances from countries including Argentina, Austria, Canada, England, France, Germany, Macedonia, Mexico, United States, Vietnam and Wales. Tribal Fusion Bellydance with Michelle Manx

Location: Lucky Cat Studio: Manchaca, TX (Please contact Michelle for

When: August 12th- September 30th: Wednesday evenings 7:00-8:15 PM

Classes will begin with a warm-up which will include yoga-based stretches and
conditioning exercises. The conditioning exercises will help one develop
muscle-memory for the isolations, which are common in this style of bellydance.
The dance section of the class will introduce isolations, tribal arms, traveling
steps, and combinations. Following the dance portion, there will be a short
cool-down section.

Costs: Drop-in rate: $15 or $96/ 8 week session : August 12th- September 30th..
If you plan to miss a class, please let me know at the time of payment so I can
pro-rate the session. Sorry, no refunds or class
credit for missed classes from the previous session.

Tribal Alchemy is a NON PROFIT event that benefits SAFE HAVEN of TARRANT COUNTY. SafeHaven of Tarrant County is a non-profit organization created to help victims of domestic violence. They provide shelters, meal, clothing, education, counseling, medical and dental care and other services that really benefit the community. Last year Tribal Alchemy was able to give a van load of donations to SafeHaven along with some money. Thank you to all that donated! This year, their services have been taxed more than ever so lets show them how much we appreciate what they do for others!

~Ceiling height: 16' from floor to bottom of truss
~Stage flooring: 3/4" plywood raised on 1x4 slats. Covered by 1/8" tempered hardboard. (As soon as we get the seating configuration we will let you know of the stage area. Don't worry you will not have a little stage in the middle of the room as shown in the picture )
~Dressing rooms are availabe but please come prepared as much as possible because space is limited.
~No fire or animals are allowed in the show.
There are limited spaces so please send in your application as soon as possible

This workshop will also observe ways we lose physical and mental energy that affects endurance and performance. The Cymbalist Movement: Integrating Finger Cymbals into Your Dance $36.00
Finger cymbals are an integral part of American Tribal Style bellydance, and can be a lovely accompaniment to a solo performance. However, many dancers often feel daunted by cymbal playing and have been using them less and less… Finger cymbals aren’t scary, and this workshop will help you approach cymbals as an instrument and as a way to enhance your performance. With the right exercises, anyone can play cymbals and dance! Asharah will lead you through an intense warm up, teach drills that layer movements and cymbal playing, introduce common cymbal patterns found in Middle Eastern music, and teach a short dance combination focusing on the playing of your cymbals with the music and your movements.

This workshop will briefly discuss the history of the classic pin-up girl of 40's and 50's will introduce some of the noted pin-up models and artists of the era. Michelle will demonstrate how to incorporate vintage fashion, classic pin-up poses, and facial expressions into tribal fusion bellydance.

Following the lecture portion of the class, the dance section will include a warm-up, a demonstration of various pin-up poses, and a brand new tribal fusion choreography with a pin-up girl flair.

ABOUT SONIA:

Born and raised in Los Angeles of Mexican-American parents, Sonia began her training with classical ballet, jazz, and modern dance. At age 20, she started dancing professionally with various troupes and learned Mexican, Latin, Flamenco, and Polynesian dances. For three years Sonia performed with Ballet Folklorico del Pacifico under the direction of Adriana Astorga-Gainey and Jose Vences, both former dancers of the world-famous Ballet Folklorico de Mexico. She began dancing with Polynesian Paradise in 1994 with director Akemi Welsh.

For the past ten years, Sonia's focus has been bellydancing. Her training and experience in the other dance styles inform her approach to bellydancing. She was the first dancer signed to the Bellydance Superstars and has performed in every show (over 350) in 16 countries with them. On tour breaks Sonia keeps an intense schedule of dance instruction for herself with top teachers in Egypt and the U.S. Now an instructor for three years, Sonia has taught regular classes at Equinox in Los Angeles and Thermos du Monte Carlo in Monaco.

She released her first instructional DVD in 2005 titled Art Of Drum Solo" with Issam Houshan. Her second instructional DVD, "Introduction To Bellydance", with sister Bellydance Superstars Bozenka, Saida, and Amar Gamal is scheduled for release in May 2006. Other DVD credits include star performances in "Bellydance Superstar Live In Paris", the Bellydance Superstars DVD series, and with the troupe in the film documentary "American Bellydancer".

ABOUT ISSAM:

Issam Houshan is fast becoming a legend across the US and Western Europe as the powerhouse drummer, driving the Bellydance Superstars and Desert Roses to greater and greater glory. Already a highly accomplished percussionist on assorted Arab hand drums, and noted disciple of the famed teacher, Mahmood Salahadin, Issam is now unequaled in his field. Dubbed by fellow Syrian musicians as the Wassan Pharaoun (Pharaoh of Rhythm), his al assaben al Sahriha (magic fingers) are currently insured for 10 million dollars (1 million each).

His past credits include working with Sting at the Grammys (Desert Rose) and many visiting Arab stars to the US. His drum solos with the Bellydance Superstars are major features of each show, as captured in the films American Bellydancer and The Bellydance Superstars Live in Paris. His CD, Wassan Pharaoun, represents Issam at his best and will have huge appeal to the extensive bellydance community in the US who will find it an indispensable part of their collection.

Raks into Spring 2009 THANKS!! (x-post)

So, I have finally been able to catch my breath, get back into the regular monotony of work, and had enough time (without Tribe being down) to get a post up!

I just wanted to personally say Thanks to all that came out to support “Raks into Spring”2009 featuring Zahra Zuhair.

I am sure those that attended can attest to the fact that she is an outstanding, down to earth, instructor and an even more remarkable performer! There were varied levels in the workshops and she was able to make it challenging for the most seasoned performer as well as palpable for even the beginner student.

Oodles of talent from North Texas and beyond graced the stage at Rose Marine theater for our Gala Show. Zahra performed twice, once with Wind and Fingers who added such a wonderful variation with the ambiance of live music.

Again, a VERY sincere, THANKS to all who made our event a success!

Hi there. Here is information for an upcoming 5-week tribal fusion style bellydance class series
starting March 12, 2009 - April 9, 2009
Thursdays 7:45-8:45 PM at Cafe Dance, located at 3307 B Hancock Drive, Austin, Texas 78731 (near the intersection of Balcones Drive and Hancock Drive, next to Russell's Bakery and Coffee Bar)

Description
Each class will begin with yoga-based warm-up to stretch, strengthen, and align our bodies for dancing. Class topics will range from basic movements to technique (hip articulations and abdominal isolations) to stylization. Choreography will be taught to help bring the concepts together.

All levels are welcome.

Attire
Wear comfortable clothing that you can stretch and move in. Anything you would wear to a Yoga class would be appropriate. Please, no coined hip scarves. Bare feet only.

Cost

In December, you may have seen the following post on tribe.net,

"If you' ve been wanting to attend any of my belly dance events, 2009
IS THE YEAR TO DO IT! For purely personal reasons, I will begin
scaling back and phasing out some of my annual events. Right now, all
dates on the calendar are solid.

This decision has been a long time coming. I've been sponsoring
annual events since 1996 (yes - really since then) with building
scale and frequency. My focus has been gradually drifting in other
directions and I don' t want to fight that natural progression
any longer. No need for alarm or panic. This is a good thing for me.
I'm not quitting belly dance or taking a break . I'm simply
redirecting my focus within the dance. Hope you' ll help me send it
out in style."

But over the holidays, I found another answer by finding 2 new

torch"of The Austin Belly Dance Convention and Tribal Dance Camp to

Modern Tribal Fusion Bellydance classes with Michelle Manx

Modern Tribal Fusion Bellydance with Michelle Manx (www.pin-upbellydance.com)

When: Wednesdays 7:00 - 8:15 PM - Classes
begin on January 14th.

Where: Lucila's Dance Studio in South Austin located at 1700 South
Lamar #316, Austin, TX 78704.

Class will begin with a warm-up which will include yoga-based stretches and conditioning exercises. The conditioning exercises will
help one develop muscle-memory for the isolations, which are common in this style of bellydance. The dance section of the class will
introduce isolations, tribal arms, traveling steps, and combinations. Following the dance portion, there will be a short cool-down section.

Costs: Drop-in rate: $15 or $72/ 6 week session : January 14th-February 18th. If you plan to miss a class, please let me know

This one-hour class will cover a progressive curriculum of belly
dance movements with a focus on FAN DANCE technique. Fans add drama
and excitement to any style of belly dance. You'll learn everything
you need to know about fan construction and care, techniques and
tricks, and we will block out a routine that you can customize to
suit your own personal style.

Students will need to have a set of "Asian Fabric Fan" dancing fans
which can be purchased on-line as part of your registration for
$20/set (when you register no later than November 14 at 10am). This
style is affordable, durable and works great as is. You'll also learn
how to enhance your fans with a silk tail for the ultimate dance
accessory.

Students should have completed all four components of the Beginner
series or comparable training with another instructor. No membership
required. Tuition $60 per 4-week session; or $80 per 4-week session
including set of fans. Discount available for members of Body
Business, please inquire prior to registration.

All classes are for adult women only.

Attire: comfortable clothing, bare feet or dance slippers. Hip

Baladi & Beyond with Bahaia

What’s in a name: Baladi, Beledi, Baladi Taqsim? Baladi – it’s a people, a rhythm, a dance style, a musical style and a formula for improvisation. In Arabic, the word Baladi means “my country” or “my hometown”. Baladi dance is the original women’s solo dance from the Middle East and therefore a precursor to and fundamental influence of Raks Sharki (belly dance).

In this 3 hour workshop, you’ll explore Baladi styling and the roots of the dance with movements that capture the earthy elegance and laid-back simplicity of great Egyptian dancers like Fifi Abdo, Nadia Hamdi and Aida Nour. You will also learn to understand and interpret the improvisational nature of the Baladi Taqsim. This formulaic style of music encapsulates the very heart and soul of Arabic music with inspired melodic solos, call and response, and a paced rhythmic build that finishes in a frenzy!

It's that time, ladies! This year we have Princess Farhana to party (er, I mean study) with!

Imagine yourself immersed in dance, surrounded by the beauty of the Texas Hill Country. You wake each morning with a ritual stretch on the green banks of the Guadalupe River. Your days are leisurely paced with morning and afternoon classes and plenty of time for hiking, swimming, shopping, practicing, and relaxing. Your nights are filled with music and dance, with henna, campfires, and with frienships old and new. This is Bahaia's HOT Dance Camp!

The first of its kind in Texas, Bahaia's HOT Dance Camp is held at Camp Arrowhead - a girls' camp in the summer months. The accommodations are rustic, but not primitive. Lodging is provided in community cabins, all wired with electricity. The community baths have private stalls and hot water. Three hearty meals and snacks are provided by the catering staff in the indoor dining hall. Classes are held in a spacious hall with hardwood floors, a raised stage, and a professional sound system. Shows and evening events are held on the river banks and in the dance hall.

The beauty of the Hill Country is breathtaking in October. This is the perfect, serene environment in which to expand your creative horizons and revitalize your passion for dance! Event is limited to 50 campers - don't delay!

New session of Tribal Fusion classes

When: Wednesdays 7:00 - 8:15 PM - Tribal Fusion Bellydance classes
begin on September 3rd.

Where: Lucila's Dance Studio in South Austin located at 1700 South
Lamar #316, Austin, TX 78704.

Class will begin with a warm-up which will include yoga-based
stretches and conditioning exercises. The conditioning exercises will
help one develop muscle-memory for the isolations, which are common
in this style of bellydance. The dance section of the class will
introduce isolations, tribal arms, traveling steps, and combinations. Following the dance portion, there will be a short cool-down section.

Costs: Drop-in rate: $15 or $72/ 6week session: September 3rd
October 16 (no class on September 17th). If you plan to miss a class, please let me know
at the time of payment so I can pro-rate the session. Sorry, no refunds or class
credit for missed classes from the previous session.

Details & What to Wear: Comfortable clothing that offers good range
of motion (jeans not recommended). Loose pants or yoga/stretch pants
work well. Many find tank tops or snug shirts beneficial for seeing
movement. Hip scarves are also a favorite addition for accentuation
of hip movements. I also recommend a yoga mat and plenty of water.

Hello fellow fire fanatics!
This is an automated reply. Please join our tribe and stay tuned for updates on the upcoming NFPL Championship and tubing campout to be held Sept 26-28th on the beautiful Guadalupe River in New Braunfels ,Texas.

We are currently seeking DJs who may wish to promote themselves by providing music for the competition in exchange for the spotlight. We will need a link to review their music and their contact info. If you intend to use an independent DJ or band for your music, weather live or recorded, that may wish to be promoted and entered as an independent , there will be professional scouts attending the event who will be seeking musicians for future gigs. Pass the wordand help your musician friends get promoted!

We are also seeking judges for the duration of the event. If you or someone you know would be a good , unbiased, and fair judge,and may have expertise in performance art, martial arts, staging events, and especially the fire arts, let us know. We would like to receive a bio about them and why they would be a good judge. Entrants will be scored on technicality, form, costuming, stage presence, originality, musical accompaniment, and professionalism. Judges will not be allowed to perform in categories they will be judging.

Prices are $40 per person/per night and includes Membership to the NFPL for one year, entry into the championship, camping ,and tubing and shuttle service on the river. For Spectators, $30 per person/per night includes Membership to the NFPL for one year,camping ,and tubing and shuttle service on the river.Its gonna be a great time, so come out and enjoy what is sure to be a great time and great show.

For Championship entrants, there will be many male , female , pair, and troupe, categories to choose from, dependent on what fire tools you exhibit and number of performers in each routine. If you have a fire tool that is original or not listed , let us know and we will include it/them. If you use props such as structures or pyrotechnics, let us know the nature of these features and any space requirements.Please read our profile and be practicing your routines. You may enter as many categories as you wish.If you have your own music you wish to use in performance, please have it on CD or Ipod and ready to go. We will post entrant forms to bring with you to the show, so stay tuned!

Thank-you all for the amazing number of responses we have gotten. Space is limited to 2500 people at the event , so RSVP ASAP! We will try to answer all your questions in our updates. Vintage Bellydance Combos for Soloists, Partners, and Troupes

Class Description: Get cheeky with Obsidia and Nari of L'imprevu! Learn vintage bellydance combos in a small class setting that will get you moving, thinking, and creating your own combos! You will be introduced to L'imprevu combos that have been adapted for soloists, partners, and groups of three or more. Come to the class as a soloist, with your dance partner, or with your entire troupe, as this format is deisgned for everyone! Participants will walk away from this workshop with usable, adaptable combos for every style of bellydance. Notes will be provided. Dancers should have at least six months of instruction to attend. Space is limited, so sign up soon to get a spot and take advantage of the early bird special!

Sweft is an exceptional dancer and teacher whose talent is truly endless. He is trained in Modern and Jazz, performs Salsa, Meringue, Indian, African and Polynesian, and teaches Hip-Hop classes all over Houston. His dance company, Sweft Feet Dance, was born in October 2006 and focuses on diversity through movement.

Sweft has created an exciting choreography for the members of The Renegades and Their Collection of Carnies. This show will present a true fusion between Interpretive Belly Dance and Hip-Hop. The Renegades feel blessed to be working with such an amazing dancer and cannot wait to share this performance with you.

Hi everyone!

I'm excited to announce that I will be teaching a four-hour workshop in Austin on Sunday May 4th! Workshop is from 1-5pm, and I am being hosted by Rick and Z-Helene. The workshop is limited to 15 participants, so make your plans to be there now!

I will be teaching a grab-bag of topics, including Lebanese movements, styling, and combinations (we may or may not cover a whole choreography, but that won't be my first goal), drills including finger cymbals, and my general dance philosophy and wisdom (haha)....

New session of Tribal Fusion Bellydance classes begin this week

Tribal Fusion Bellydance classes

When: Wednesdays 7:00 - 8:15 PM - Tribal Fusion Bellydance classes
began on April 23rd

Where: Lucila's Dance Studio in South Austin located at 1700 South
Lamar #316, Austin, TX 78704.

Class will begin with a warm-up which will include yoga-based
stretches and conditioning exercises. The conditioning exercises will
help one develop muscle-memory for the isolations, which are common
in this style of bellydance. The dance section of the class will
introduce isolations, tribal arms, traveling steps, and combinations. Following the dance portion, there will be a short
cool-down section.

Costs: Drop-in rate: $15 or $72 six week session: April 23rd - June
11th (classes will not be held on May 7th and May 14th, due to Tribal Fest) . If you plan to miss a class, please let me know at the time
of payment so I can pro-rate the session. Sorry, no refunds or class
credit for missed classes from the previous session.

Details & What to Wear: Comfortable clothing that offers good range
of motion (jeans not recommended). Loose pants or yoga/stretch pants
work well. Many find tank tops or snug shirts beneficial for seeing
movement. Hip scarves are also a favorite addition for accentuation
of hip movements. I also recommend a yoga mat and plenty of water.

New session of Tribal Fusion classes

I'm in the process of moving to a new house; therefore, I will only be teaching on Wednesday nights. Once the house is re-modeling and I am settled in, I will be teaching on Thursday nights at my home studio Lucky Cat Dance Studio in Manchaca. Private lessons will be available by appointment. I'm still planning to teach at Lucila's on Wednesday nights, as well. Here's the info for my upcoming session:

SATURDAY 10:00a WORKSHOP: "UNMATA au naturel"
This multi-level workshop will outline two tribal fusion combinations emphasizing technique and isolation. The first
combination will incorporate the building blocks of UNMATA's modern bellydance style. The second combination will focus primarily on the Hula Fusion nuance.Each movement will be outlined within a tribal cueing system so that it may be added to any troupe's choreography or tribal vocabulary. Amy will describe and drill each individual movement,then fasten them together into an accessible tribal combo that will be practiced in useful group and duet formations.
This workshop will be fun, fast, and furious. UNMATA believes in beat-your-butt technical practice, so bring water and come prepared to sweat.

This intense workshop focuses on fast! Amy will lay down the stylistic foundation and technical breakdown for UNMATA's awe-inspiring omis, ferocious shimmies, and bad-ass body pops.Each movement will include "transition-training" so it can be used alone or linked with other movements to create a short choreography. WORKSHOP: "Overlaying Isolations, Amy Sigil Style"

Amy's Art of Overlay is at the heart of this intermediate toadvanced bellydance workshop aimed to add expressive layers and distinction to your dance style. Although controlled simultaneous movement is a complex idea, this class provides a simple approach certain to bring impressive results.Beginning with a thorough breakdown of basic isolation technique, Amy will expand such elements as core strength and relaxed tension, and then demonstrate helpful exercises that are necessary to develop an awareness needed to isolate key muscle groups. Then she will teach and drill an isolation combo that incorporates the artistic flare unique to Amy Sigil and UNMATA.

Because this class is designed for the intermediate to advanced dancer, a sufficient understanding of balance and timing is prerequisite.
